The title page and penultimate
page of John David Earnest's Southern Exposure, scored for full orchestra
and commissioned by the Mobile Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the Tricentennial
of the City of Mobile, Alabama in 2002. One of the things I love about engraving
is the opportunity to learn about music as I work. Not only is this a great composition,
but the orchestration is particularly good. Strong part doublings, smooth transfer
of material, and a wonderful integeration of the various sections are a few hallmarks
of this huge arrnagement. The intense amount of detail regarding performance parameters
made this a taxing commission, but nevertheless it was truly a pleasure to engrave,
continuing my proud association with this fine artist. Right Click on the image for greater detail clarity.
